47 King Street West, Manchester

I have been looking forward to eat at 47 King Street West for some time, I remember walking past it a few times and seeing it advertised on Manchester Confidential. In fact, I am tempted to try the afternoon tea there as well.  Yesterday, I made it for Happy Hour, 2 cocktails for £12 between 4-7pm. I love cocktails so Mr Nom ordered a French Martini, I was thinking whether to order the special, Apple and Elderflower Martini, however I settled with the Lychee Martini.

For our starters Mr Nom selected the pan fried scallops with spicy chorizo cake, petit salad and coriander oil. It was a lovely starter, the scallops were cooked perfectly and there was certainly a kick with the spicy chorizo cake. I selected the tuna carpaccio with textures of apple and beetroot salsa, it was top notch! The flavours were balanced and every element worked together exquisitely.

After a great start to the evening I was eager to have my main course. Mr Nom ordered the pan fried duck breast with rosti potato, braised pak choi and raspberry jus. It was a shame the duck was not pink as requested and was quite tough.  On the other hand, my rack of lamb with sweet potato pomme puree, pickled carrot and roasted cherry tomatoes was appetising. The lamb was served pink and the accompaniments were great, I like a lot of vegetables with my food. The pickled carrot was lovely as it added texture to the dish.

Desserts were definitely on the cards to round off the evening. Mr Nom picked a chocolate pudding with vanilla pod ice cream, he loves a good chocolatey dessert, whereas I picked the raspberry crème brulee.  We saw why it was named Chef’s hot chocolate indulgence pudding, it was gooey and yummy and the ice cream on top was just melting. Equally, I enjoyed my dessert; it was presented elegantly with some summer berries, berry coulis and shortbread. The raspberry flavour was light and delicate, I never used to pick crème brulee but recently I just can’t get enough of it!

It is rare to find a restaurant where I have enjoyed every single course!  After such a positive experience, certainly I will return as there are a few dishes I want to try on my next visit. I had a fantastic evening and for whomever that has not tried this place, I would definitely recommend!
